Edelbert Ambrosius von Immenhofen
Edelbert is a big man, easily over six feet tall, he wears his black hair cut short, and his beard well groomed, he prefers black clothing, mainly leather or his Dracheneisen armor, which is also painted black.
His armor is nearly a full set, leaving only the left arm and right leg exposed, he also owns a Dracheneisen Zweihander.
a Eisen nobleman who has travelled much with the group, but has his own affairs to attend to at the moment
His Full Name and title by now is: Edelbert ambrosius Graf von Drachenfels, Baron von Immenhofen-Hohenstein. Technicly this means he would more correctly be called Edelbert Ambrosius voN Drachenfels nowadays.
Edelbert was born on the 19th of Decimus 1647 on his family’s estate Immenhof in the Kingdom of Heilgrund, Eisen, as the fifth of ten children. His father, Friedrich Hermann Immenhofen, was a close friend and advisor to Emperor Weiss III, until Weiss Death in 1636. After Weiss died the new Emperor Riefenstahl asked Friedrich to continue his service, but only to get him out of the political Picture. An Objectionist like him had to be kept under control, and must not become the leader of an army opposed to the Emperor. ( something that Friedrich would never have done, having the same loyalty to Riefenstahl he had had to Weiss).
Edelberts Mother was Helena Elisabeth Karlmann, a cousin 5th grade of Weiss and 2nd grade of Riefenstahl. She married Friedrich in 1640 against the wishes of Riefenstahl and converted to Objectionism, after which she was disinherited and expelled by her family.
Edelbert has seven sisters , the two oldest of which, Agnes Maria and Frederike Johanna, are already married. His two brothers, Lutz Weiss and Volker Nikodemus, both died very young.
Friedrich took over the education of his son at the age of six. The main elements of his Education programme were History, Military history and Religion. He was punished severely for mistakes and his father trained him in the use of the Zweihander.
Edelbert had a pronounced sense of Fairness and Justice from an early age, helping the weak in conflicts between the children of the village, which often led to him being beaten by the older boys. He never denounced one of them though, making his father proud.
On Edelbert´s 11th Birthday, Friedrich had a severe apoplectic fit, which left him paralysed and mute. This made Edelbert the head of the family. His mother managed the estate and the barony, since Edelbert had no knowledge of these things. Over time the doctor, who cared for Friedrich taught a Montaigne sign language to Friedrich and his family, which transmitted signs via the eyes, enabling communication with Friedrich once more. Officially Edelbert remained head of the family, but all decisions concerning the estate and barony, were discussed with Firedrich now.
When Edelbert was 13 years old, his father informed him that he would take a place at the military academy in Pösen in the next spring, just like his father and grandfather before him. And so it happened that in spring of 1660 he, along with 40 other cadets appeared for his first roll-call.
Here he also experienced the enmity between Objectionists and Vaticines for the first time. The Instructor taking the roll-call outed him as an Objectionist, which immediately got Edelbert the derogatory looks of his fellow students and later the bullying of the Instructor. There was one other cadet who immediately became a target for the instructors bullying, a small, weak looking boy around about fourteen years of age, by the name of Johannes Effigenie von (of) Hohenstaufen. Johannes was nearly unable to move in his Dracheneisen Armor, despite of it’s light weight (the main reason for which was that it was made for someone at least 30 cm taller)
The two were made roommates and over the course of the three years at the academy became friends and more…
Their friendship lead to a number of (true) rumours, which let them sink even farther in the eyes of their fellow cadets and instructors.(if this was possible). But one of their instructors (one of the two who did not bully them at every chance, and whom Edelbert suspected to be an Objectionist) praised their friendship as a very good example of comradeship (which earned him a number of very irritated looks from the cadets)
Johannes quickly showed that he was a very poor student. He had no knowledge of military history, no sense of tactics, and was incompetent in the use of weapons. Only with much help from Edelbert, who drilled him during the whole time and protected him from the other cadets, who wanted to bully him (they didn’t dare to try this on Edelbert because of his size and unyielding demeanour) he managed to finish the academy. Paradoxical his grades were better then Edelberts.
The second Instructor who did not bully them at every opportunity was an old fencing Master, who only had one leg, named Kornelius Theodor Heilbach. He instructed the two in fencing during their free time, because they were harassed and neglected by the other instructors during the regular lessons. He also taught the basics of the Drexel school. Because of his missing leg Kornelius was unable to teach him even one of the Stances properly though. ( He only learned these later, when visiting a Drexel Instructor in Freiburg, shortly before leaving in his newly acquired ship)
After their graduation Edelbert was drafted for the Vaticine Army, and send to fight the Objectionists for Emperor Riefenstahl ( Riefenstahl considered this a wonderful way to eliminate this objectionist family once and for all). Johannes volunteered to stay with Edelbert.
In 1663 and 1664 they fought in Wische against the army of General Wulf. During each battle Edelbert prayed to Theus for forgiveness of his betrayal of his own faith. After Wulf´s death and the dispersal of his troops he was sent to Sieger to fight there. When the Castillian and Montaigne invaded the demoralized imperial army had only little will left to oppose them, despite of this they fought. Among them Edelbert and Johannes.
In one of those battles, Edelbert doesn’t really remember which, not to mention when or where, he had to watch his beloved Johannes being stabbed in the back by a Montaigne. He remembers killing the Montaigne and holding Johannes for a time, talking to him. The next thing he remembers is the hospital he woke up in. His whole left side was burnt and he had suffered numerous wounds. He was told that he had fought in an extraordinary way and he was given a medal (which he disposed of in a heap of used and stinking bandages).
He asked for Johannes, but none could tell him anything. It is suspected that he was buried in one of the mass graves.
Afterwards he and his „brave comrades“ were told that the war was over and that they could go home. And Edelbert went home, said down on the porch at the back of the house and started brooding. His mother feared he had become one of the poor creatures who came to the estate begging for food , and who were called „Waisen“ by the village people. But after two months he jerked awake, nearly bursting with his thirst for action.
Together with his parents he made plans on how to restore the barony. Rebuilding the Brewery and the Village, and renewal of the farms and Bee hives ( Immenhof is poetic Eisen for Bee farm)
All these actions, which he helped with great enthusiasm, only were a means to fight the pain and emptiness in his heart. He had met with the Waisen on his way home, and had thought about joining them for a moment, but who should rebuild the county and maybe , just maybe Johannes was still…
After rebuilding his land (as he called them, despite them technically belonging to his father still) he felt the need to travel.
He recently acquired a ship, together with an Avalon Sea Dog named Richard Logan, along with a few friends they now sail the Seas of Theah.
